Within U.S. Embassy Baku program dedicated to 100th Anniversary of Azerbaijan Democratic Republic, we are glad to announce the lecture on "The Birth of Azerbaijani Democracy in its Global Context" by Princeton University professor Michael A. Reynolds! Prof. Reynolds will give a speech on the establishment and history of ADR and answer your questions related to the topic.

Michael A. Reynolds is Associate Professor of Near Eastern Studies at Princeton University where he teaches courses on Ottoman and Middle Eastern and Eurasian history, comparative empire, military and ethnic conflict, and American foreign policy. He is the author of Shattering Empires: The Clash and Collapse of the Ottoman and Russian Empires, 1908-1918 (Cambridge University Press, 2011), a recipient of the American Historical Association’s George Louis Beer Prize, a Choice outstanding title, and a Financial Times book of the summer, and editor of Constellations of the Caucasus: Empires, Peoples, and Faiths (Markus Weiner, 2015). He is currently working on a biography of Enver Pasha, hero of the Young Turk Revolution and the Ottoman Minister of War and triumvir during World War I.

As of July 2018 he will assume the post of Director of Princeton’s Program in Russian, East European, and Eurasian Studies. He holds a PhD in Near Eastern Studies from Princeton, an MA in Political Science from Columbia, and a BA in Government and Slavic Languages from Harvard.
